When people need this
Pasting a contract page into a slide deck is the most common one: presentation software will show a PDF page as a grey box, while a JPG just drops in. Pulling a signature or a stamp out of a PDF for a form, or grabbing one chart from a 40-page report for a chat message, are the same problem in different clothes.
How big the images get
A4 at 150 dpi is 1240×1754 pixels — plenty for a screen and around 300–600 KB as JPG. At 300 dpi the same page becomes 2480×3508 pixels, which is what a printer wants; expect four times the pixels per page. Grey scans of text compress worst, photos of pages best.
Why a scanned page stays an image
This tool renders pages, it does not read them. Text that was a picture inside the PDF stays a picture — you get a sharp image of the words, not selectable text. If you need to copy the text, that is OCR, and it is a different tool with a different trade-off.
