When people need this
Two directions dominate: pages going into a slide deck or a chat message (JPG, small), and diagrams going into a document or a wiki (PNG, sharp). A screenshot is often the third option — but a screenshot of a page you already have as a file is just a lower-resolution copy of it.
How big the images get
A4@150 dpi = 1240×1754 px; A4@300 dpi = 2480×3508 px. As JPG that is roughly 0.3–0.6 MB and 1–2.5 MB. As PNG multiply by three to five. Ten pages of JPG at 150 dpi is a couple of megabytes — small enough to attach without thinking about it.
Why some pages come out the wrong way round
PDF pages carry their own rotation flag, and viewers apply it silently. If a page was scanned sideways and then rotated inside the PDF, the flag is what you see on screen. This tool renders the page as the viewer would show it, so landscape pages stay landscape.
